The Imus City Gunners Football team marked another defensive win against Ciudad de Cavite, cementing their back-to-back championship title during the Cavite Football Cup (CFC), commenced at the City of Imus Grandstand and Track Oval last Saturday, November 29.
Gunners dominated the field and claimed the score of 3-0, solidifying their place at the top this season and forcing their opponents to settle for second place in the championship match.
Coach Jay Carabaccan's side first broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, as Meljim Catap showed grit and dedication, chasing the ball down and striking it into the net at close range, giving the Gunners an important 1-0 early lead.
The team doubled their advantage in a tight contest through a commanding 2-0 lead in the 96th minute, when Giomel Gigataras secured a decisive shot that left the opponent’s keeper stranded with no chance to block.
At the 106th minute mark, the Imus City Gunners finally sealed their victory, as Karl Ramos secured the winning point of 3-0 by powering a header into the net while both teams contested neck-to-neck near the goal, making the win for Ciudad de Cavite out of reach.
“During the game, medyo kinakabahan kaming lahat, kasi hindi rin basta-basta ang Ciudad de Cavite City. Pero siguro, nanaig yung team spirit and support ng crowd para ma-overcome namin yung pressure ng finals game,” said Assistant Coach Gelver Verona of the Gunners after the match.
Meanwhile, the Batang GenTri Football Team secured the third place under a clear score of 3-0, defeating the Bacoor Football Team in a shutout.
The football cup concluded with the awardings of the players and the City of Imus extended their acknowledgements to the Gunners on their impressive display of team spirit to retain the championship title for Imus during the 2025 CFC. [F]
