Academic organizations of Cavite State University–Imus Campus have officially cancelled the previously postponed Sportfest 2025 due to budget constraints and concerns raised by the Central Student Government (CSG), following a meeting held on February 11 at the CvSU Imus gymnasium.

The decision was finalized through a voting process among representatives of  academic organizations. The results were recorded and notarized to formalize the decision.

Organizations include Young Office Professional Advocates (YOPA), Samahan ng Mga Mag-aaral ng Sikolohiya (SMS), Cavite Communicators (CavComm), Cavite Young Leaders for Entrepreneurship (CYLE), Educators’ Guild for Excellence (EdGE), Computer Science Clique (CSC), Business Administration Society (BAS) are all voted against the continuation of the Sportfest.

Meanwhile, Circle of Hospitality and Tourism Students (CHATS) and Builders of Innovative Technologists Society (BITS) voted for the continuation of the event.

The funding for Sportsfest 2025 was disclosed during the meeting, and declared that it was not included in the Project Procurement Management Plan (PPMP), leaving the event without an approved budget allocation.

It was also explained that the responsibility for submitting the activity proposal was transferred from the Sports Coordinator to the Central Student Government (CSG), as the Sportsfest is considered a student-led activity.

“Huwag na maghanap ng budget dahil wala namang budget [ang sportsfest],”  The CSG President, Zoe Gil said.

The students also asked about the Athletic Fee shown on the registration form where officials explained that this fee is only used for outside competitions like the University Games, and not for campus events such as the Sportsfest.

Additionally, the officials assured students that other scheduled events, including the Local Culture and Arts Festival and participation in the University Games, will continue as planned.

The campus administration has yet to announce if alternative sports-related activities will be organized this academic year. [F]
