The Cavite Communicators (CavComm), in partnership with Ugnayan Youth, the Rotaract Club of Imus, and various sponsors, held a General Assembly focusing on youth empowerment and community engagement at the Cavite State University, Imus, Main Lobby, on Friday, November 21.
With the theme “Empowering the Youth Towards Active Involvement and Community Strength”, the program highlights the essence of volunteerism, active participation, and community engagement for journalism students.
The Ugnayan Youth President, Harry James G. Nuñez, discussed why community engagement is essential, especially [for] young journalists who partake in the said assembly.
“Journalism has [an] impact [on the] community, you can amplify everything, you can amplify the youth. It [transforms] people to do positive change, to do action,” he said.
Furthermore, Rotaract Club of Imus - United Chosen President Anshley Corpuz stated that volunteerism gives purpose; he anchored the concept to indigenous communities uncovered by the government.
“Yung first time nila magkaroon ng gamit, malaking bagay na ‘yun sa kanila. Makikita mong may purpose ang pagv-volunteer,” he added.
CavComm President Jerich Levantino also addressed his foundation for the General Assembly, stating that the youth excels not only in academics, but also in leadership and change.
“Youth adapt [to] change, and when they adapt to change, they embrace it. They will become catalysts for social change,” he said.
Meanwhile, CavComm Vice President for Internal Affairs Andrea Bitangcor, together with Student Academic Program Ambassador (SAP) Journalism Chris John Labalan, presented the Assistance and Knowledge of Appeals and Protection (A.K.A.P.) Desk, a mechanism designed to provide, document, and record student concerns to ensure quality service within the journalism community. [F]
