Front-runner Alex Eala failed to secure a win against Lulu Sun even after a hot first set, 6-3, and got overpowered after two sets 4-6, 2-6, in the semifinals of Jingshan Tennis Open last Saturday, September 27.

The Filipino tennis ace showed her dominance in the opening set, launching three straight games for a commanding 5-2 lead, before securing it on 6-3.

Third seed Sun jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the deciding set and held off Eala to book a spot in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 final in China, in which she currently stands on rank number 58.

Eala closed the third set with 5-2 but Sun answered it and clinched the match in two hours, 13 minutes.

Alex Eala’s defeat marked her second straight early exit since winning the Guadalajara 125 Open title on September 7. She had bowed out in the quarterfinals of the São Paulo Open earlier this month before resuming her campaign in Asia. [F]
